Summit attempt 1
December 28th-29th 2022
From the resort of Flims, Piz Segnas looms as a white pyramid in the distance. In December 2022, my friend Niels and I set out to summit and ski the west face of Piz Segnas; it would prove to be difficult, taking two attempts. On our first ascent, we spent the night at the mountain's base. A beautiful snow-covered valley that, in the morning, remained dark while the tips of the surrounding mountains glowed gold from the sun. Once the sun had risen, we began our ascent of the west face. Hoping to reach the saddle pictured on the left edge of the image below. But the snow proved too great of a challenge. We abandoned our summit before reaching the saddle.

Summit attmept 2
January 6th 2023
A week later, with newfound energy, we again attempted the summit. Taking an alternate route around the mountain's east side, we wished to avoid the slope of the west face, now trying to climb the mountain in one day with a single push. It took us most of the day to reach the ridge before the summit. That ridge was a steep, icy slope that fell off on both sides; Niels did not feel comfortable continuing, so I went on alone. Alone I no longer wished to ski the west face Piz Segnas, and after reaching the summit, Niels and I skied down the mountain's east side.
